A WRITER dubbed the 'last great unknown Welsh poet of the 20th century' could be remembered in his home county.

Thomas Henry 'Harri' Jones, who was born in 1921 at Cwm Crogau, near Llanafan-Fawr, close to Builth Wells, wrote about his native landscape and experiences in the Second World War.

Sadly Harri died aged 43 in an unexplained drowning in Australia, where he had emigrated to.

Reverend Ben Griffiths led a fundraising walk in aid of St Afan's Church, Llanafan Fawr and Llanfihangel Brynpabuan church, where the poet's ashes are buried, and called for an annual event to remember the Breconshire poet.

Harri's youngest sister, 79-year-old Pat Power of Builth Wells has supported Rev Griffiths' suggestion.

She said: "It would be so fitting if his memory was honoured."
