A BROKEN-DOWN bus was towed away at the second attempt after blocking an inbound carriageway on one of the main routes into Brecon for most of Sunday.

The stranded bus was the T4 service from Builth Wells to Cardiff operated by Stagecoach. It suffered an engine problem early on Sunday morning and a Walls recovery vehicle was sent to tow it away around lunchtime. However the driver of the recovery vehicle was unable to attach a tow-line or the towing arm because the bus did not have a towing attachment near the front.

A second, larger recovery vehicle was then scheduled to turn up to tow away the bus, which was left with its doors open and sidelights blinking, partially blocking the inbound carriageway of The Watton near Brecon town centre outside The Bank pub.

The new recovery vehicle eventually arrived at around 7pm and successfully towed the stranded bus away.

An observer said: “It was lucky it was a Sunday, and a wet one at that, as on any other day it would have caused a few traffic problems.”
