MORE than 120 residents visited Brecon’s new Cultural Hub last week to see progress on the exciting development.

Powys County Council and project contractors Kier held a two stage event at the site and the town’s library last week (Tuesday, June 6) giving the community a chance to find out about the initiative to renovate the museum and art gallery and provide a new area library, community and education facilities.

Visitors were given a chance to see progress at the site and hear about proposals for the new library and other facilities, as well as the renovation of Brecon’s Shire Hall. They were also given layout plans and designs setting out what the hub will provide when it opens next year.

The events started with a visit to the construction site in Glamorgan Street, followed by an information session at the library where project partners, including Brecknock Museum & Art Gallery, Kier Construction, Powell Dobson (architect), DesignMap (museum interpretation), Brecknock Society & Museum Friends and Brecknock Art Trust, outlined their role in the ambitious project.

Cllr Rachel Powell, Cabinet Member for Libraries and Leisure Services, said: “We were delighted that so many residents took the time to visit the site and information evening at the library. This project has the potential to be a great cultural asset to all of Powys communities who support the arts, libraries and museums within the county.”

Robert Hunt, project manager with Kier Construction Wales, said: “It was a real pleasure to meet so many local people and show them around the Cultural Hub site. We hope they enjoyed getting a behind the scenes view of the project and it was great to see the weather didn’t dampen the spirits.”
