Charcroft Electronics, based in Llanwrtyd Wells, collected the Growth Award, sponsored by WR Partners, at this year’s annual awards ceremony held at The Infantry Battle School, Dering Lines, Brecon at on Friday night.

The awards are organised by Mid Wales Manufacturing Group (MWMG) and last year Charcroft Electronics won the Business in the Community Award.

Founded in 1974, Charcroft Electronics has grown into one of the UK's leading manufacturers and specialist distributors of high-reliability electronic components, supplying customers across aerospace, defence, rail, industrial, medical and high-end audio markets.

“This is absolutely overwhelming; it’s not just an award for me it is for the whole of Charcroft and our wonderful team that make it the successful business it is today. We wouldn’t be here without them,” said director, Vicky Mellor.

“The Growth Award is an exceptional award to win. It demonstrates what we have managed to achieve as a small business in rural Mid Wales to show that we are growing as a healthy business. This will help us to attract more customers and more staff as well so it is actually fantastic.”

The company’s recent success in a volatile market has resulted from strengthening the foundations of the business to deliver sustainable, profitable long-term growth.

The company’s three to five-year strategy, focused on investment in people and technology, innovation, international expansion and organisational development, has already delivered measurable results.

Last year, Charcroft achieved sales exceeding £15.6 million while maintaining strong profitability and healthy cash management. Export sales exceeded £3.2 million and are forecast to increase this year.

Almost £2.9 million of these exports were products manufactured in Wales, demonstrating the company’s commitment to creating skilled employment and adding value within the Welsh economy.

Targeted recruitment has strengthened the business and provided a stronger platform for future growth. The company has also invested heavily in employee wellbeing, training and engagement.

“Our ambition is clear: to increase exports of Welsh-manufactured products, expand into new international markets, strengthen our engineering capabilities and continue investing in our people,” Vicky added.

“As the business continues to grow, we remain committed to creating skilled employment, supporting local communities and demonstrating that a manufacturing business based in rural Wales can compete successfully on the global stage.

“By combining strong leadership, strategic investment, international ambition and a people-first culture, Charcroft has built a resilient business that is well positioned for continued sustainable growth over the coming years.”

The company is working closely with the Welsh Government's International Trade team, to identify new overseas opportunities.

The judges describe Charcroft as “ambitious, adaptable and always ready for the next challenge”.

“Experienced leadership and a committed team have been central to the company’s success, while creating valuable opportunities for career progression within rural Powys,” they added.
