Concerns have been raised over the condition of the Market Square car park in Hay-on-Wye.

Councillor Gareth Ratcliffe has written to Powys County Council after a member of the public twisted their ankle following a fall due to poor surface conditions.

On social meda, Cllr Ratcliffe said: “I walked the area with officers from the local depot who indicated that patch repairs are due. While I understand that full resurfacing and re-marking would require a capital bid, and that finances are tight, I would like clarification on when exactly are the temporary patch works scheduled to be carried out? Is there any confirmed timeline or plan in place for full resurfacing and re-marking?”

He then went on to say that the car park generates £15,000 annually, with Hay-on-Wye bringing in more than £360,000 per year in car parking revenue.

Powys County Council told the Brecon and Radnor Express: “We can confirm that during the most recent inspection, Market Square car park has been identified as needing resurfacing. This has been added to the forward work programme. When the work will take place will depend on upcoming budgets and priorities.”
