Powys council’s webcast cut out while the councillor for education was asked to give assurances over the future of two secondary school sites.
The council intends merging both Llandrindod and Builth Wells high schools – but allowing them to continue to operate on their current sites.
However when Llandrindod Wells Lib Dem councillor Pete Roberts asked for reassurances there would be no plans to move from two sites to one during the current council term the live stream on the council’s website cut out.
Viewers, rather than hearing the cabinet member's answer, instead just saw a black screen and a message that the meeting had paused and would recommence soon.
Cllr Roberts had thanked the cabinet member for education, Cllr Myfanwy Alexander, for reassurance that Welsh medium pupils wouldn’t have to travel to Brecon in future.
Cllr Roberts said there had been concern the decision to save the Welsh stream at Brecon could lead to secondary education through Welsh being centralised in the new £22m school rather than at Builth Wells as originally proposed.
But Cllr Alexander said she hopes to increase the number of children learning through Welsh and a review of Welsh language provision in Mid Powys would now also include the south of the county.
