This year’s Brecon Arts Festival has an exciting new competition this year which is for new artwork created in October 2015 and based on a Brecon theme.

Creatives can submit work in any format, so are not restricted to drawings or paintings, and organisers Good Day Out hope to see a wide range of viewpoints and artworks based on the lovely Georgian town. The artwork must be submitted on Thursday, October 29, or can be handed in before by arrangement. Unconventionally, the winners of the cash prizes of £250 for over 16s and £50 for 16s and under, will be chosen by public vote, so theoretically anyone is well within a chance of winning!

Competition creator, Julia Blazer of Good Day Out, is delighted to have been able to increase the prize money this year with the help of kind sponsors Party Party in Lion Street, and The Hours Café & Bookshop in Ship Street. Julia feels that it is important to highlight not only the town’s fantastic natural location and stunning architecture, but also to showcase local talent with anyone free to enter.

Entries must be new and started on or after October 15, and submitted on October 29 at Kitty Keane’s Vintage Shop in St Mary’s Street, Brecon between 10am-4pm, where work will be photographed or recorded and returned. Digital artwork should be submitted digitally.

Submissions can be made earlier, and full info can be requested by contacting the organisers, at [email protected] or 01874 749092 or at the website www.gooddayout.co.uk

Anyone can enter, and anyone can win. The work will be shown on www.facebook.com/BreconArtComp and also displayed digitally in Kitty Keane’s between October 30and November 6 for public voting to decide the winners. The prize winners will be notified by Saturday, November 7.

This is just one of the many fantastic events happening this October with the Brecon Arts Festival, which are all listed in the event programme, or on www.artbeatbrecon.org
