12-year-old Edee Morris from Hay-on-Wye climbed Pen y Fan on Father’s Day in memory of her late father - and raised hundreds of pounds for the Wales Air Ambulance in the process.

Edee’s father, Karl Morris, tragically passed away in January after suffering a catastrophic brain bleed at their home.

First responders and the Wales Air Ambulance crew rushed to his aid on the evening of Thursday, January 23, and he was transferred to hospital in Cardiff. Despite their efforts, Karl sadly died on Sunday, January 26, surrounded by love and comfort.

Karl, affectionately known as ‘Benny’, was remembered as a caring, loving man who would do anything for anyone. Even after his passing, he continued to help others through organ donation - saving the lives of three people who had spent years on transplant waiting lists.

After losing her father, Edee was determined to honour his memory by raising money for a cause close to her heart. She set herself the challenge of climbing Pen y Fan and completed the ascent on Father’s Day (Sunday, June 15), joined by family and friends. Her sponsored walk has so far raised £640 for the Wales Air Ambulance Charity.

The Wales Air Ambulance provides advanced, lifesaving medical care across Wales 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

It is the only air ambulance charity based in and dedicated to Wales, relying entirely on public donations to raise the £11.2 million needed each year to keep its helicopters flying and rapid response vehicles on the road.

Founded on St David’s Day, March 1 2001, the charity has since attended more than 50,000 missions, ready to respond to life- or limb-threatening emergencies.
