Brecon High School will close on Thursday as extreme temperatures continue to affect Wales.
The latest list of school closures in Powys can be found here.
Headteacher Rob Edwards said the decision had been taken following a full site risk assessment and in the interests of the health, safety and wellbeing of pupils and staff.
In a letter to parents and carers, Mr Edwards said that although the school sits outside the Met Office's red weather warning area and is currently covered by an amber warning, temperatures being experienced locally are comparable to those in areas under the highest level alert.
He said: "In practical terms, this places the school in a similar risk position, with even more extreme conditions forecast for Thursday."
The Met Office has extended a red warning for extreme heat in parts of southern Powys until the end of Thursday, with an amber warning remaining in place across Wales.
Mr Edwards said staff would upload work to ClassCharts so pupils could continue learning during the closure.
The school is currently expected to reopen on Friday, when Year 6 pupils are due to attend their second transition day.
"We will continue to monitor the situation closely,” Mr Edwards said.
Parents and carers have been told they will be informed if there are any further updates.
