Students from Brecon and Radnorshire and beyond picked up their A-level results today.

Top grades in Wales did fall for the second year in a row, although results are still higher than before the pandemic.

The proportion of A and A* grades this year in Wales is 34 per cent. This is down from 40.9 per cent in 2022.

According to exams watchdog Qualifications Wales, some grade boundaries were lowered this year to recognise the impact of disruption caused by the Covid pandemic.

Education minister Jeremy Miles said extra support helped make this year’s exams “fair”.

The overall pass rate at A-level was 97.5 per cent with 13.5 per cent of grades the top A*.
