Booking is now open for the 14th edition of the renowned Glasbury Arts Harp Summer School.
This year’s event will run from Wednesday, August 26 to Saturday, August 29 at Gwernyfed High School in Three Cocks,
The event offers harpists of all levels, from beginners to advanced, the chance to learn from some of the country’s finest players. This year, the Summer School introduces a new group specifically for players of the traditional Welsh triple harp, led by co-director of music Eleri Darkins and associate tutor Gareth Swindail Parry, a former participant.
Advanced and intermediate groups will explore classical, Scottish, and improvisational music under the guidance of Manon Browning, co-director of music, and Scottish harpist Ailie Robertson, making a welcome return visit. Emily Harris and associate tutor Bethany Coggon will also join the sessions. Beginners will receive tuition from returning associate tutors Rose Graham and Mistletoe Chapman. Participants do not need to have sat grade exams, but sessions are tailored to level, from beginners (grade 1 upwards) to intermediate (grades 2-5) and advanced (grades 6–8).
Participants at Grade 6 or above are also invited to enter the Summer School’s third composition competition, submitting original works in the form of a written score to [email protected] by 5pm on Sunday, July 12.
A highlight of the week will be a concert on Thursday, August 27, featuring world-renowned harpist Catrin Finch performing her favourite music from across the globe. The Summer School will conclude with its traditional end-of-week concert, where at least 30 harps will come together to create a unique summer school orchestra.
Early Bird booking discounts are available until March 31. For full details on tuition, competition entries, and concert tickets, visit the Glasbury Arts website, which can be found at: glasburyarts.co.uk
