A concert featuring West End performers from Les Misérables is set to take place at Brecon Cathedral this month in support of a Welsh heart charity.
‘I Dreamed a Dream’ will be staged on Wednesday, May 20 at 7:30pm, bringing a programme of musical theatre favourites to the historic venue in the town.
The event will see professional performers take to the cathedral surroundings in a bid to raise funds for Calon Hearts, which works to prevent sudden cardiac deaths in young people across Wales through heart screening, CPR training and the placement of defibrillators in communities.
Performers include Charlotte Kennedy, Ashley Stillburn, Elizabeth Tiley, Sophie Baker and Morgan Westcott. The musical director for the evening is Geraint Owen.
To date, Calon Hearts has screened more than 34,800 hearts, trained over 600,000 people in CPR and placed in excess of 37,000 defibrillators.
Heart screenings for people aged 16 to 26 are provided free of charge and include an electrocardiogram (ECG) and review by a cardiologist. Part-funded checks are also available for those aged 27 and over, which include an ECG, echocardiogram (ECHO) and specialist feedback.
Calon Hearts says at least 12 young people in the UK die every week from undiagnosed heart conditions, often with no prior symptoms.
Sharon Owen, Charity and Fundraising Director at Calon Hearts, said: “This is going to be a really special evening in a beautiful setting. Events like this allow us not only to bring people together through music, but also to continue our work saving lives across Wales and the UK. Every ticket sold helps us reach more people with screening, training and defibrillators.”
