A Llandrindod-based environmental group will meet to discuss horses as greener form of transport at a special event next week.
The Trawsnewid Llandrindod Transition event will be focused on horses as a sustainable means of transport, hosting Penny Nicholson, who recently established a horse park at The Llanerch Inn.
The meeting will be held in the Multi-Purpose Room at Trefonnen School, Llandrindod Wells, on Tuesday, January 24 at 7.30pm until approximately 9pm. Doors will open at 7pm.
The meeting is free to attend, donations are requested to help cover costs, and everyone is welcome.
Penny will offer the proposition that the humble and loyal horse is so often short of work these days and side-lined to the world of leisure, however valid that world may be.
It could instead become a valued tool in the toolbox of carbon-neutral transport, with relevance to the Active Travel agenda.
The group will be asked to consider the attractions, as well as disadvantages, of a conveyance which runs on grass, as well as having some startling spin-offs for well-being and health.
Trawsnewid Llandrindod Transition is part of the Transition Network, a worldwide organisation of people who want to do something practical locally to reduce our impact on the environment in the face of climate change and diminishing resources.
The group focuses on practical local actions which are fun and rewarding to do as well as bringing longer-term benefits, with the aim of helping Llandrindod make the transition to a low-carbon, sustainable and ethical future.
The group runs various local projects including Incredible Edible Llandrindod, the Repair Café, and the Pomarium.
Details of the group’s activities can be found on their website (transitionllandrindod.org.uk) and Facebook page (facebook.com/LlandrindodTransition/)
