The family of a 76-year-old motorcyclist who died following a collision in Powys have paid tribute to a “much-loved husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend”.

Richard Freeman, from Wistanstow in Shropshire, died following a collision involving a motorcycle and a van on the A488 at Monaughty on Wednesday, August 12.

Dyfed-Powys Police said the two-vehicle collision happened at about midday and involved a black Harley Davidson motorcycle and a white Ford Transit.

Mr Freeman died at the scene.

In a tribute, his family said: “Words cannot describe our devastation by Richard’s passing. We are still struggling to come to terms with our tragic loss.

“Richard was a much-loved husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend of many.

“Richard, a retired agricultural engineer, enjoyed many outdoor pursuits including cycling, motorcycling, fishing, and especially walking his beloved dog ‘Indie’.

“Richard was an experienced motorcyclist since a very early age, and we will all miss him dearly.

“Our lives will not be the same without him, and he will be forever in our hearts.”

The family also thanked those who had contacted them with messages of sympathy following Mr Freeman’s death.

They added: “We thank the emergency services and members of the public who attended the scene.”

The A488 was closed for several hours following the collision while officers carried out their investigation, before reopening shortly after midnight on Thursday, August 13.
