A Brecon County Show stalwart has been recognised with one of Welsh agriculture’s highest honours.

Brian Davies FRAgS, from Garthbrengy, Brecknock, was named the 2026 recipient of the Sir Bryner Jones Memorial Award on the opening day of the Royal Welsh Show.

The award, presented annually by the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society, recognises individuals who have achieved the highest level of service and contribution within Welsh agriculture.

This year’s award celebrated a person who has made an outstanding contribution to the success of a local or regional agricultural show in Wales.

Mr Davies has dedicated 59 years to Brecknock Agricultural Society, helping to support one of the UK’s oldest agricultural shows.

A former chairman, vice chairman and president of the society, he has played a key role in encouraging young people and local families to get involved with Brecon County Show, helping to secure its future.

Royal Welsh Society president Gethin Havard announced Mr Davies as the winner during a ceremony at the showground, with the three shortlisted finalists and their families present.

Judges Harry Fetherstonhaugh OBE FRAgS and Susan Jones FRAgS said Mr Davies “exemplifies the very highest standards of leadership, commitment and dedication”.

They added: “Brian's contribution ensures the Brecon County Show remains relevant, inclusive and capable of evolving in a changing world and changing agricultural landscape.

"His understanding of how the event works, together with his unwavering commitment to its volunteers and his ability to inspire the next generation is most impressive, and will help ensure the long-term future of the show."

Mr Davies was presented with the Sir Bryner Jones Memorial Trophy, Medal and Certificate during the awards ceremony.

The award commemorates Sir Bryner Jones, one of the most influential figures in the history of Welsh agriculture and the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society, whose career included roles as Honorary Show Director, chairman of council and president of the Society.

The award has been presented annually since 1957 in recognition of his lasting contribution to Welsh agriculture.
