Knighton Market saw an excellent sale of 720 store sheep on Friday, January 30, with strong buying support continuing for a yard of mainly longer-term hoggets.
Nicest Continental X lambs regularly sold for over £120, while longer-term sheep, including Welsh ram lambs, averaged £103.77 per head, with many selling around £100.
Top prices included £140 per head for Texel X ram hoggets from TJ Richards & Son, £134 for Texel X ram hoggets from AJ & IH Morris, and £131 for Texel X mixed hoggets from DM, MR & CM Price. Other pens of Texel X mixed hoggets sold at £130 per head, including stock from J Bright & Son and A Scatched.
Mule lambs reached £113 per head for a pen of Mule ram hoggets from P M Thomas, while Welsh ram hoggets sold to £110 per head for J & R Watkins. Welsh mixed hoggets sold to £106 per head for JW Bevan, with further Mule ram hoggets at £104 from P M Thomas.
Overall, large Continental X or Suffolk X hoggets sold between £125 and £140 per head, medium-sized Continental X or Suffolk X hoggets fetched £110–£125, and smaller or longer-term hoggets ranged from £70–£105 depending on size. Hillbred or Mule hoggets sold from £65 up to £113 per head depending on type and size.
The next sales at Knighton Market include late entries on Friday, February 6, and a sale of store cattle, cull cows, and store sheep on Friday, February 2o, with entries closing on February 12 at 5pm.
