An army major who led a regiment through the streets of Brecon last year as part of centenary celebrations, has been presented with Gold Kite by the chairman of Powys County Council.

Major Karl Dawson MBE was given the Gold Kite Award and Certificate of Appreciation for Exemplary Achievement by Cllr Paul Ashton in honour and recognition of his distinguished career in the Welsh Guards.

Major Dawson led the Welsh Guards through his home town of Brecon in September 2015 as part of the regiment’s Centenary Parade. The Welsh Guards, based in the Elizabeth Barracks in Pirbright, Surrey, were granted the Freedom of Powys in 2011.
