Residents of Gwenllian Morgan Court have raised hundreds of pounds for Brecon Foodbank with a charity coffee morning.

The coffee morning was held on Wednesday, May 17 when a raffle was also held to boost funds. Residents showed their generosity as the donation box quickly overflowed - there were some great prizes on offer including a bottle of whiskey.

Residents said the star items for sale were the home-cooked cakes and delicious fruit salad.

£240 was raised through this event which they topped up to £300 from social funds.

The cheque for £300 was presented to Lyn and Tracy from Brecon Foodbank last Wednesday, May 24.

Lyn Bugler started the food bank nine years ago when it was first noticed by a local church that people were struggling.

Serving an area from Brecon to Hay-on-Wye, the food bank has a host of volunteers who hand out parcels twice a week to those in need. Recipients are given five parcels every six months, together with a voucher for the local butcher and Spar.

The unpredictability of life's circumstances, such as job loss or health issues, can potentially impact anyone, highlighting the possibility that anyone may find themselves in need of utilising a food bank at some point in their life.

Gwenllian residents all agreed it is a very worthwhile charity and have promised to put out a box for Christmas.
