A BID will be made to the Heritage Lottery Fund to preserve Hay Castle and open it to the public.

Trustees of the crumbling castle, which includes some of the oldest untouched medieval ruins in the country, are due to apply for nearly £5 million from the Heritage Lottery Fund.

The massive project could be underway by the end of 2015 if funding is granted after the first application in December.
