Members of Hay Camera Club are celebrating after their photographs were selected for display at a prestigious art gallery near Hereford.

The exhibition, entitled Through the Glass Lens, brings together photographers and leading contemporary glass artists in a shared exploration of light, memory and perception.

The exhibition is being held at Canwood Gallery, Checkley, and runs from July 23 until August 16, opening from Thursday to Sunday between 11am and 4pm.

Glass plays a central role in both photography and glassmaking, not only as a physical material but also as a way of shaping how light is gathered, held and transformed.

In photography, glass lenses frame and focus the world, while in glass art the material itself bends, contains, reflects and refracts light, creating forms through transparency and opacity.

The exhibition presents photography and glass side by side, with each exploring light from a different perspective. Photographic works capture powerful and memorable moments shaped by glass, from everyday encounters to extraordinary scenes, using light and timing to transform familiar sights into something remarkable.

Glass artworks explore light as a material presence, where transparency and reflection allow light to shift, fragment and reassemble through movement, time and the viewer’s position.

Hay Camera Club has an active membership ranging from beginners to more experienced photographers. The club organises weekly meetings with speakers, learning events, competitions and trips.

At the end of July, the club will become international when it competes against Marlborough Camera Club in New Zealand.

The club meets at Cusop Village Hall on Tuesdays and also holds some meetings via Zoom.
