STAFF from the Metropole Hotel raised more than £1,000 for the Velindre Cancer Centre charity with their annual Wellness Walk around the lake in Llandrindod Wells.
Altogether 45 members of staff and 70 friends of The Metropole and Velindre got together to walk 410 laps of the lake, starting at 6am and and finishing at 6pm.
This year, the walk was particularly poignant as a member of the hotel’s staff is currently being treated in the Velindre Cancer Centre in Cardiff.
On the day, a total of £631.49 was raised in cash conations, which hotel managing director Justin Baird-Murray and his sister, finance director Sarah Hill, increased by £1 for every lap walked, making a total of £1,041.49.
Further sponsorship was provided by Castell Howell Foods and Radnor Hills, supplying the walkers with snacks and water to keep up their energy levels. Mr Baird-Murray said: “The day was a resounding success. We were delighted with the enthusiasm and generosity of the walkers and all our supporters. Raising funds for Velindre Cancer Centre has particular resonance for us, as one of our long-serving members of staff is being treated there. The hospital is our charity of the year, and we will be fundraising until April 2019.”
