A MEETING to consider the future of six schools is to be webcast.

Powys council’s cabinet is consider plans that could close Builth Wells and Llandrindod high schools as well as Llanfihangel Rhydithon Primary School in Dolau.

Earlier this month it was announced a plan to replace Builth and Llandrindod high schools with one new secondary, operating over the two existing sites, would be recommended to the cabinet.

It was also announced the cabinet would be advised to abandon a plan to close both Brecon and Gwernyfed high schools and instead retain both schools.

Cabinet member for education, Cllr Arwel Jones, said he would recommend to cabinet it invest in the Gwernyfed site and seeking Welsh Government funding for a new 11 to 18 school for Brecon.

The cabinet will consider proposals for Llanfihangel Rhydithon primary and new proposals for Llanbister Primary, which the cabinet previously intended closing, followed by proposals for Builth Wells Llandrindod high schools.

The Brecon and Gwernyfed high school proposals will be considered by the cabinet from 2pm.

The webcast can be viewed from 10.30am on Tuesday by going to the council’s webcast portal at www.powys.gov.uk on an internet device with Flash or Silverlight software installed. The webcast will also be made available in the webcast archive afterwards.

Admittance to the council meeting is by ticket only, available on the day on a first-come-first-serve basis. Parking at County Hall is limited and visitors are being advised to use the town’s public car parks.
