An internationally acclaimed jazz trio will perform locally in March when the Emma Rawicz Trio comes to Cwmdu.

The concert, from Friends of Cwmdu Music, will take place on Saturday, March 14 at 7:30pm at St Michael & All Angels, Cwmdu (NP8 1RW), bringing one of the UK’s most talked-about young jazz musicians to the village.

Emma Rawicz, a 24-year-old saxophonist originally from Devon, has rapidly established herself as a leading figure in contemporary jazz. She is currently one of the BBC’s New Generation Artists and has already released four critically praised albums. Her career has seen her headline tours across 15 countries, including sell-out performances with the BBC Concert Orchestra and appearances at major international venues such as the Berlin Philharmonie.

Her signing to the major jazz recording label ACT represented a big step forward in her international career. Her debut ACT release in 2023, Chroma, was widely praised, followed by The Big Visit, a duo album with pianist Gwilym Simcock released in March 2025, and INKYRA, released in October 2025.

She will be joined by long-time collaborators Niklas Lukassen on bass and Jonny Mansfield on vibraphone. Lukassen plays the upright bass, the bass guitar and his unique bass cello, and has performed with leading jazz figures including Kurt Rosenwinkel, Joe Lovano and Mike Stern, touring extensively across Europe, North America, Asia and North Africa.

Mansfield is an award-winning vibraphonist and composer, and a graduate of the Royal Academy of Music, where he received the Kenny Wheeler Jazz Prize. His career has taken him to major venues including the Royal Albert Hall, Ronnie Scott’s and international festivals across Europe and the United States.
