THE cost of parking in Powys has gone up after the county council increased the price of its parking permits.

The council said an increase last year in the cost of its season tickets for its pay and display car parks was the first rise "for some considerable time".

Cabinet member for highways, Councillor John Brunt said: "The increase in car parking permits have been kept to a minimum following agreement last year that these would be brought in over a three year period.

"These permits are available for one month, three, six and twelve months and represent considerable value against daily ticket purchases, the twelve month permit being based on a 56% reduction based on a forty-six week, five day week usage price, but available for the full twelve months."

The increase came in from the beginning of May.

The cost of a 12 month permit for a car is now £325, £185 for six months and £100 for three months. A one month permit costs £40.
