Kirsty Williams, Welsh Liberal Democrat AM for Brecon and Radnorshire, has made a last ditch plea to Powys County Council to stop the removal of bus services that will have a severe impact on the communities of Builth Wells, Knighton and Trecastle.
The bus routes most under threat in Brecon and Radnorshire are the Brecon to Llandovery service and the Builth Wells and Knighton Town services.
Ms Williams said: “I recognise that the council are in a tough position financially, but cutting bus services could leave many people, in these communities, isolated. The council must consider the impact the withdrawal of these services will have on the elderly and vulnerable, who need these services to access shops, health and financial services.
“I am urging the council not abandon these people. I understand that in other areas the Council has been able to work with local communities to maintain a partial service, I have already submitted ideas to Powys CC that would cut costs & provide a lifeline to people and urge the Independent Cabinet to consider them again.”
