THE Albert Hall on Ithon Road is to be the setting for Llandrindod Wells’ first ever LGBTQ+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans*) film festival.

All the films chosen for the festival have a mental health or LGBTQ+ theme and the evening, which is being staged tomorrow (Friday, December 14), will include the premiere of By Any Other Name.

By Any Other Name, a short film made with Mid Powys Mind, was shot in and around Llandrindod and features several local actors.

The festival also features several short films from the Iris Prize Festival’s back catalogue and is free to attend. There will be a bar (cash payment only) and mince pies and everyone is invited.

Festival organisers PAVO (Powys Association of Voluntary Organisations) have been working for the last three years to ensure the voices of people using mental health services in Powys are heard as part of a Comic Relief-funded project.

The Powys-based body which brings together voluntary and community organisations was recently invited by the Iris Prize Festival Outreach programme to take part in their community film-making project.

The Iris Prize Festival is an International LGBTQ+ Film Festival, based in Cardiff, which attracts film makers from around the world.

The LGBTQ+ Premiere and Film Festival at the Albert Hall, Llandrindod Wells, on Friday, December 14 begins at 7pm. Enquiries should be made to [email protected].
