LIBRARIES across Powys are closing early today (Friday) as continuing heavy snow fall wreaks havoc.

Powys County Council has also announced all its mobile libraries have been taken off the road.

Council offices will close at 4pm on Friday and normal opening hours are expected to resume on Monday, January 21.

The council says its refuse and recycling crews have been deployed to clear snow from town centres across Powys. The authority suspended Friday's refuse collections.

Snow also caused road closures with the main A470 between Brecon and Merthyr Tydfil closed from mid morning. It reopened at around 3pm on Friday.

The A44 at Crossgates however remains closed in both directions. Heavy snow has blocked the trunk road between its junction with A483 at Crossgates and the B4372, New Radnor.
