Consultancy company, Carney Sweeney Ltd, have launched a pre-application consultation into the proposal of a Lidl store being built in Brecon.
The firm have said the consultancy relates to Lidl’s intention to submit a full planning application to Bannau Brycheiniog National Park Authority for the erection of a Class A1 retail footsore with surface level parking.
The plans have the store located on a patch of land north of Brecon industrial estate, south of the A40/A470 roundabout with the entrance and exit off the A470.

The public are invited to view the draft planning application submission below and provide comments on the proposals in advance of the formal planning submission.
Any pre-application consultation responses on the proposed development must be submitted to Carney Sweeney by Wednesday, 11 November 2026.
A spokesperson for Carney Sweeney said: “This Pre-Application Consultation relates to the intention of Lidl Great Britain Ltd to submit to Bannau Brycheiniog National Park Authority (BBNPA) a full planning application for the erection of a Class A1 retail foodstore with surface level car parking, landscaping, and all associated drainage and engineering operations and service connections on Land to the north of Brecon Ind. Est., South of A40/A470 Roundabout, Brecon.”
In April 2025, Lidl revealed a list of 43 towns and communities across Wales where it would like to open new stores. This list included Brecon, as well as Builth Wells, Llandrindod Wells and Ystradgynlais.
If approved, the discount store would become the fourth supermarket in Brecon behind Morrisons, Co-op, and Aldi. The store would be the closest supermarket to residents of Llanfaes.
