Llandovery is getting ready for a month of woolly antics which begins on Saturday, 13 September, at the Rhys Prichard Memorial Hall with a special screening of Notes from Sheepland, plus an exciting array of activities.
This poetic and powerful documentary explores the life, landscape and labours of sheep farmer and artist Orla Barry. Navigating the dual demands of creativity and agriculture in a male-dominated industry, the film paints a portrait of resilience, identity, and the raw beauty of rural life.
But this is so much more than film. It’s about integrating communities and exploring its topics in engaging ways. That’s why this event will begin with a craft workshop, inviting audiences to get creative with scrap yarn in a session lead by Linzi Brown, owner of Bumblebees of Llandovery, a wool and haberdashery emporium.
Post-Show Panel Discussion: Women in Wool
After the screening, an all-female panel of local experts will reflect on the film’s themes and share their insights into contemporary rural life, the challenges of the wool industry, the cultural traditions and the innovative work being done by these women in a movement to revitalise Welsh wool.
Panellists include:
Lisa - Drefach Fibre Flock, Llansadwrn
Liz - Pen-Y-Lan and Cwm Du Fibre Flocks, Llanwrda
Julia - Crook&Collie, Carmarthen
Marlene - Dinefwr Blankets, Llandeilo
Linzi - Bumblebees of Llandovery
