Work to improve the walking and cycling route around Llandrindod Lake is due to begin next week.

Powys County Council has confirmed work will start during the week commencing September 28 and is expected to take around 16 weeks.

The scheme forms part of the wider Llandrindod Wells active travel project, which aims to improve links between the lake and the town centre.

A widened shared-use path will be created along Princes Avenue, while parking will be retained on both sides of the road. The route will continue around Lake Road. The junction of Grosvenor Road and Golf Links Road will also be modified to improve visibility.

The project is being funded by the UK Government.

Cllr Jackie Charlton, Powys County Council’s cabinet member for a Greener Powys, said the work would provide “safer and more accessible walking and cycling links” between the lake and town centre.

“We have spent considerable time engaging with residents, businesses, the town council and local county councillors to help shape these plans,” she said.

“We recognise that roadworks can cause some disruption and would like to thank residents, businesses and visitors in advance for their patience and cooperation while this work takes place.”

Work will begin at the Grosvenor Road end of the project, with traffic management measures in place. The council said every effort would be made to minimise disruption while the work is carried out.
