A BENEFIT gig featuring local artist and exciting talent from the Welsh music scene is to be held in Llandrindod Wells to support refugees.
The People Are People event aims to raise a substantial amount for two charities working on the frontline supporting refugees fleeing Syria and elsewhere.
It takes place this Friday, September 25 at the Centre Celf, the former Theatr Powys building in Tremont Road, and features Carwyn Ellis, the main songwriter in pop-psychedelia band Colorama, who’ve released five albums, and Rhayader based Toby Hay.
Carwyn has recently worked with Edwyn Collins and Sarah Cracknell and even filled in with Oasis during one of their tours.
Toby has appeared at the Green Man and Swn festivals and his instrumental guitar folk is influenced by the Mid Wales landscape and he has been compared to John Fahey and John Renbourne.
Money raised at the night, that runs from 6.30pm to late, will benefit two charities, MOAS and Syria Relief.
Hannah Harrop, one of the organisers, said: "We chose these two charities as they are both doing a wonderful job of helping the refugee crisis right at the core of the problems.
"MOAS are navigating the Mediterranean Sea, rescuing refugees from dangerous, life threatening situations, and have saved over 10,000 lives this year.
"Syria Relief are on the ground in Syria providing medical aid, education and food to displaced Syrians."
There will also be a raffle which has seen the community pull together with a huge amount of donations including original artworks from Celf O Gwmpas and Sorell Matei, an original piece from Sophie Jauncey Jewellery, a massive selection of vouchers and prizes from local businesses, plus music from artists like Kizzy Crawford and Band Pres Llagerub Brass Band.
Performer Emma Kolano, a Llandrindod based singer-songwriter, is supporting the project. She said: "It’s times like these when we realise how lucky we are and it’s essential that we pull together to help those struggling to survive. I’m privileged to show my support and help raise awareness through singing, something I love."
The event runs at the Centre CELF, The old Theatr Powys building, on Friday, September 25 from 6:30 pm. For more details check the campaign facebook group at facebook.com/peoplearepeopledod.
