Knighton and District Refugee Support will present Satie’s ’Vexations’ this weekend in aid of Medecins sans Frontieres. This piece, composed in the 1890’s, involves playing the same tune 840 times, and can last well over 24 hours, depending on the speed at which it is played. It was first performed in 1963 by a team of pianists including John Cage.

This year it will be performed in Knighton by a rota of local Marches pianists, in Knighton Fine Art Gallery, Broad Street, Knighton, beginning at 4pm on Sunday, October 18, and finishing afternoon/evening of Monday 19.

All money raised will go to Medecins sans Frontieres (Doctors without Borders). All are welcome to drop in and leave a donation or sponsor a pianist in advance. Euros accepted as well as sterling.

Knighton and District Refugee Support is a new group, set up to give practical support to refugees coming to Britain. Please get in touch if you can donate books or plants to sell, clothes or money to be delivered to people in need or are interested in offering a space for someone to stay.
