A man from Hay-on-Wye is running his very first London Marathon this October for a cancer charity.
Matt Groves will run the 26.2 miles in aid or Prostate Cancer UK, which will be the first London Marathon since the pandemic struck last year.
Matt has been in training ever since he found out in February that he had a place.
He decided to run for Prostate Cancer as he felt that its profile needed raising as so many people are affected by this cancer and although it is the most common cancer in men it often isn’t spoken about.
Matt said: “So many people we know are affected, my Dad, who’s luckily fit and healthy now, friends, work colleagues. We can all do our bit and so I’ve decided to get my running shoes on!”
Prostate Cancer UK has a simple ambition – to stop men from dying of prostate cancer. More than 47,500 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer every year – that’s 129 men every day.
Every 45 minutes one man dies from prostate cancer – that’s more than 11,500 men every year. One in eight men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime and around 400,000 men are living with and after prostate cancer.
