The Watton Allotments Society is celebrating after being awarded Green Flag status once again.

Brecon Mayor Cllr Michaela Davies presented the the Society’s secretary Ann Bateson with the highly acclaimed award at a presentation over the weekend.

Only 180 community managed sites across the country have met this high standard - an award granted by Keep Wales Tidy. It confirms that the Society has demonstrated it plays a vital role in people’s mental and physical well-being, providing a haven for communities to come together, relax and enjoy nature.

The Green Flag Award is the benchmark for parks and green spaces which are managed by volunteers.

Both the mayor, deputy mayor and five other town and county councillors joined more than 40 happy plotholders to celebrate with tea and plenty of delicious cakes... even the rain stopped for the celebration!

Every week a box of fresh fruit and vegetables is taken to Brecon Foodbank, and all suitable spare cake will also be going there, to assist in their vital role.
