One of Wales’ most exciting contemporary artists is returning to his roots this month, with a new exhibition at the International Welsh Rarebit Centre in Defynnog.

Meirion Jones, whose evocative portraits have captured the likenesses of figures such as Max Boyce, Warren Gatland and Tour de France winner Geraint Thomas, will be showcasing his latest work at the café’s dedicated exhibition space.

The son of celebrated painter Aneurin Jones, Meirion is widely recognised for work that blends rich character studies with deeply nostalgic landscapes. Raised in Ceredigion with family roots in Cwmwysg, Breconshire, Meirion’s paintings often draw on the rural traditions and scenery of both regions, alongside the Latin influences that betray his love for Patagonia.

This exhibition will also feature characters and landscapes born of Meirion’s imagination, capturing the spirit, essence, and personality of a place.

The exhibtion will run at International Welsh Rarebit Centre throughout August, which is open Wednesday to Sunday, from 10am to 4pm.
