CABINET minister Lesley Griffiths avoided protesters angered by her decision to give the go-ahead for a wind farm in Llandrindod Wells this morning.

A group of protesters had gathered outside the Metropole Hotel where Welsh Labour cabinet secretary Ms Griffiths is attending farming union NFU Cymru’s annual conference.

Her presence had attracted the attention of protesters venting their fury over Ms Griffiths’ decision, published last week, to overrule Powys council’s planning committee and an independent planning inspector and grant permission for a seven turbine wind farm between Llandegley and Penybont.

Ms Griffiths wasn’t seen arriving at the hotel this morning and it is thought she had stayed overnight meaning she didn’t have to run the gauntlet of protesters on her arrival.

Ahead of the conference opponents of the Hendy wind farm said they would take the opportunity to demonstrate to Ms Griffiths their anger at her decision.

Jane McDonnell, who helped organise the protest, said: "We will be outside the hotel and this is about local democracy, the local council has been utterly ignored.

"It is the time to act and to keep this in the public spotlight."
