Two women have set up a new service which will ensure people who are in need of a coat this winter can have one for free.
Anyone can help themselves to a coat – without having to pay – from a coat rail standing outside the Herb Garden Community Cafe in Llandrindod Wells.
The service is the brainchild of local women Molly Hawthorne and Sarah Mason. So there won’t be a deficit in the number of coats they are encouraging other people to donate their unwanted coats for free.
Explaining the idea, Molly said: “Sarah Mason at Helping Our Homeless Wales and myself have launched a free coat rail outside the Herb Garden Community Cafe. Anyone who is in need of a coat but not in a position to purchase one is welcome to take one, and anyone who has one to donate can pop it straight on the rail!
“With homelessness and poverty in Llandrindod Wells on the rise, people sometimes feel embarrassed or too proud to ask for help. We wanted to bring the community together and introduce a provision whereby people don’t need to ask – and others can give back to the community. We are also launching a rail at Pont Hafren in Newtown and hope to roll them out in Powys through the winter.”
