A MONTGOMERYSHIRE councillor has claimed he is to be installed as the new executive leader of Powys County Council.

Councillor David Jones claims his 20 strong Shires Independent Group (SIG) is able to command enough support among the 73 member council to run a minority administration with him as leader.

The authority meets at County Hall, Llandrindod Wells today (Thurs) for the first time since the May 3 local government elections.
