A NINE-YEAR-OLD from Brecon scaled Pen y Fan three times on Sunday (March 31) to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Claire Newberry completed the challenge on Mothering Sunday in memory of her nan, Elaine Young, who passed away last year.

She decided to walk to the peak and back three times in honour of the fact that her nan, who lived in Crickhowell all her life, was a mother to three children, including Claire’s mum, Sue, and Claire’s two uncles.

Claire is a pupil at Llanfaes Primary School, and lives in Brecon with her mum and her dad. She has also previously completed the 10-mile Talybont trail four times.

She has described Macmillan, who provide nurses to look after people with cancer, as a “wonderful caring organisation that made our Nan’s final days on this wonderful planet more bearable.”

Claire has raised £150 so far for the sponsored walk, and donations can be made to the fund at https://macmillan.tributefunds.com/elaine-young.
