An off-duty Santa has thanked Powys County Council after it acted quickly to get rid of rodents from his home in Talgarth.
Christmas is traditionally a time to share with friends and show hospitality, but this Christmas, the off duty Santa - Chris Hill - and his neighbours are thanking Powys council for their swift action to see off unwanted guests at their apartment block.
Chris, together with his fellow Talgarth resident and neighbour, Jayne Millman of Coed- Y-Bryn initially had difficulty getting the Council to act on rodents that were disturbing their sleep, and causing anxiety to elderly and vulnerable Council tenants in the same block.
Jane then contacted her local Powys councillor for Talgarth, William Powell, who emailed the council’s Head of Housing and raised a question to Cabinet at the full council meeting last month.
Chris Hill, who had been Santa Claus locally for a number of years until the Pandemic struck, recently updated Cllr Powell, that a contractor had visited pre-Christmas, and was pleased to report that the troublesome unwanted rodent guests seemed to have fallen silent.
Chris said: “Credit where it’s due. The contractors called and seem to have done the job - and will be returning in the New Year. I appreciate the Council acting on this, once the situation was explained. Hopefully we can look forward to a quiet and peaceful Christmas.’
Cllr William Powell - pictured above with Chris Hill - commented: “I’m grateful to Jayne and Chris for bringing this issue to my attention. Whilst I know that PCC no longer operates a pest control service, it’s vital that, as landlord, it provides a pest management for its elderly and vulnerable tenants.”
“I’m glad that Coed-Y-Bryn residents now have a safe and peaceful Christmas in prospect, free of unwanted guests. I also hope that, once the Pandemic is behind us, Chris will return to his Grotto, as our favourite local Santa.”
