Sophie, who has been making and working with silver for over 25 years, is known for her unique handmade jewellery and her work transforming treasured family pieces through her practice, Heirloom Alchemy. Based just outside Brecon, her home studio looks out towards the magnificent Pen y Fan, where she draws inspiration from the surrounding landscape, ancient craft and the elemental magic of working with fire and metal.

The Gallery

Now Sophie is bringing her skills and passion for traditional silversmithing into the beautiful surroundings of Annwfn Gallery, an independent, artist-led and family-run contemporary art space on The Struet in Brecon.

The gallery provides a welcoming home for contemporary art and creative expression, showcasing work by artists from Wales and further afield. Its name, drawn from Welsh mythology, evokes the idea of the Otherworld – a fitting setting for a collaboration that celebrates imagination, creativity and the transformative power of making.

The collaboration

Together, Sophie and Annwfn Gallery are creating a rather special workshop experience. Participants will have the opportunity to step away from everyday life, learn traditional silversmithing techniques and make their own beautiful silver jewellery, surrounded by inspiring contemporary artwork.

Whether completely new to working with silver or simply curious to explore their creative side, these workshops offer an opportunity to discover the ancient art of shaping metal by hand and leave with something personal and lasting.

A meeting of ancient craft and contemporary art, bringing a little alchemy into the heart of Brecon.
