Around 80 people attended a free community event in Knighton recently showcasing the benefits of planet-friendly eating.
The evening, held on September 27 at Knighton Community Centre and organised by Sustainable Food Knighton (SFK), offered visitors free vegetarian food, drinks and family-friendly activities.
Dishes included Indian snacks from Presteigne-based Lockdown Dhaba, Welsh cheeses and chutneys provided by Midcounties Co-op, and bread and honey from Knighton Community Market stallholders.
As well as enjoying food and entertainment, attendees heard short talks on fruit and vegetable growing and other food-related issues. Organisers said the aim was to inspire people to eat less meat and explore sustainable alternatives.
“We wanted to encourage people to think where our food comes from, how sustainable it is and how effective it will be in feeding the people of the future,” said an SFK spokesperson.
The event ended with a raffle draw, with prizes for those who attended and for participants in the group’s recent Veg Pledge challenge.
Sustainable Food Knighton is a volunteer group that campaigns for food sustainability and security by promoting the production of local food grown without damaging the environment or ecosystem.
