Hay Town Council is set to mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day with a series of events on Thursday, May 8.

Celebrations will begin at 6:30pm with a display of military vehicles in Memorial Square. If it rains, the display will be moved to 7:30pm.

At 8:45pm, a service will take place, followed by the lighting of the beacon at 9:30pm.

Food and drink stalls will be available throughout the evening, and attendees are encouraged to dress in 1940s-style clothing.

May 8 marks the 80th anniversary of VE Day, with the peoples, families and communities coming together to unite and celebrate 80 years of peace since the end of Word War II in Europe.
