Police are appealing for witnesses after a motorcyclist was killed in a crash involving a car on the road between Llanbister and Llananno.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene on the A483 to Crossgates and the driver of the car was taken to hospital with serious injuries however he remains in a stable condition.

The car, a grey Volkswagen Touran MPV, and the motorbike, a white Aprilia, collided at around 12.30pm on Sunday.

There were also two children who were passengers in the car who were taken to hospital as a precaution.

A Dyfed-Powys Police spokeswoman said: “The car, a grey VW Touran, was travelling north, while the motorbike, a white Aprilia, was travelling south.

“Sadly the motorcyclist died at the scene. Their next of kin and H.M. Coroner are aware. Formal ID has not yet taken place.”

The VW driver had to be cut free from their car by fire crews from Llandrindod Wells before they could be transported to hospital.

A Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “Sadly one casualty was pronounced dead at the scene. A second casualty was trapped in the vehicle and extricated by firefighters using e-hydraulic cutting equipment and small gear before being conveyed to hospital.”

A Welsh Ambulance Service spokeswoman said a road ambulance and air ambulance were called to the scene at 12.35pm but that rescuers were unable to save the motorcyclist’s life.
