A MOBILE police station was in Brecon for Dyfed-Powys Police’s action day.

Officers across Powys participated in the day of action, which focuses on community engagement and targeting crime hotspots, last Thursday (November 22).

The mobile station, which was parked for the day in Brecon’s main car park, is a van with a public area and a private consultation area.

The officers manning the van answered questions from visitors and gave out information packs about scammers and cold callers.

They also visited elderly and vulnerable residents in Brecon who struggle to leave their homes and gave them the same information.

By 1pm the Brecon officers said they had spoken to over 200 people in the area.

PC Jeff Cahalane said: “We had quite a few people stop and we visited all over Brecon – we actually temporarily ran out of information packs.

“A lot of people tell us they know about scammers and cold callers and how to deal with them, but we want to encourage them to report scammers in the area to us so they don’t trick someone else who’s less knowledgeable.”

Officers taking part in the action day also conducted speed tests and enforced traffic controls across Brecon and Radnordshire leading to the arrest of a drink driver and a disqualified driver.

Meanwhile officers seized 485 grammes of herbal cannabis after they executed a drugs warrant in Lower Cwmtwrch, Ystradgynlais.

Inspector Gwyndaf Bowen said: “We did this (action day) to engage with the public as well as use our police powers. The response was really good and we had a good reaction to our Twitter updates.”
