The Liberal Democrats have snatched a ward from Reform UK in the triple Powys County Council by-elections.

On Thursday, July 2, voters in three Powys council wards went to the polls to elect new county councillors following three councillors being elected to the Senedd in May.

The by-elections took place in the wards of Glantwymyn near Machynlleth, Llanyre and Nantmel near Llandrindod Wells, and Yscir with Honddu Isaf and Llanddew near Brecon.

They were due to the successful election of former councillors Elwyn Vaughan (Plaid Cymru), Claire Johnson-Wood and Iain McIntosh (both Reform UK) to the Senedd last month.

Mr Vaughan and Mrs Johnson-Wood were both elected for the Gwynedd Maldwyn constituency, while Mr McIntosh was successful in the Brycheiniog Tawe Nedd constituency.

The count took place at Powys County Council’s headquarters in Llandrindod Wells.

Plaid Cymru successfully defended the Glantwymyn ward, while Reform UK also comfortably held the Llanyre with Nantmel ward.

But the ward of Yscir with Honddu Isaf and Llanddew, formerly held by Reform UK’s Powys council group leader Iain McIntosh, has been won by the Liberal Democrats.

Colin Millichap beat Mr McIntosh’s wife, Dawn McIntosh, into second place.

The result for Yscir with Honddu Isaf and Llanddew is:
