An MS has challenged the First Minister over sewage pollution in Welsh rivers, accusing Welsh Water of repeatedly discharging raw sewage while paying large executive bonuses despite fines.
David Mills, MS for Brycheiniog Tawe Nedd, said the situation was “so wrong” and asked what concrete action would be taken to tackle the issue.
Responding, the First Minister said the Welsh Government is determined to improve water quality and is committed to a “system made in Wales, for Wales”, with stronger data, clearer regulation and a focus on enforcement where it is needed.
He said the Government wants clean rivers and will work with regulators including Natural Resources Wales and Ofwat to hold water companies to account, inlcyuding on storm overflows and environmental performance.
