Pontfaen Young Farmers Club is celebrating after being named in the top three finalists for Young Farmers’ Club of the Year at the Young British Farming Awards.

The club was nominated by Iain McIntosh MS, who praised Pontfaen YFC for the hard work, enthusiasm and commitment shown by its members, and for the important role the club plays in supporting young people and rural communities.

Pontfaen YFC is also delighted that Sian Healey has been named in the top three finalists for Senior Member of the Year. Sian was nominated by parent Carys Woods, who highlighted her dedication, leadership and positive influence on members across the club.

Iain McIntosh MS said: “Having lived in the community and supported the club for many years, I know just how much hard work, time and enthusiasm goes into Pontfaen YFC. To see the club now receiving national recognition, and being in contention for two awards, is something everyone involved should be incredibly proud of.

“YFC makes such a difference to young people, giving them opportunities, confidence, skills and friendships, while playing an important part in keeping our rural communities together. Whatever happens at the awards in September, being shortlisted nationally in two categories is a tremendous achievement.”

Carys Woods said Sian is thoroughly deserving of the Senior Member of the Year recognition because of the dedication, commitment and positive influence she brings to every aspect of YFC life. Despite working full time, raising her one-year-old son and travelling over two hours to attend YFC activities, Sian continues to give her time and energy to support members, organise events and strengthen the club.

She added that Sian’s leadership goes far beyond committee responsibilities, creating opportunities for members to grow in confidence, develop skills and feel part of an inclusive and supportive community.

“Sian’s impact can already be seen in the next generation of members,” said Carys. “My daughter Elin joined YFC last September after turning 10 and has already benefited from so many opportunities created through Sian’s encouragement and enthusiasm. Elin loves singing and performing and truly looks up to Sian as a role model and inspiration.”

The Young British Farming Awards ceremony will take place on 19 September at Cannon Hall Farm, Cawthorne, Barnsley.

Megan Chowdhuri, Secretary for Pontfaen YFC said: “We are absolutely thrilled to see Pontfaen YFC and Sian recognised on a national stage.

Pontfaen YFC wishes all finalists the very best of luck and looks forward to representing the local community at the awards in September.
