THREE Powys residents have been honoured by the county council for their volunteer service to their communities.
Gordon Green, Sian Meredudd and Lily Rauber were all presented with civic Silver Kite awards by Councillor Keith Tampin, chairman of Powys County Council.
Gordon, who also been awarded an MBE, is is one of the leading figures involved in introducing the World Bog Snorkelling Championships and many other wacky activities held annually in Llanwrtyd Wells.
Although now retired Gordon still plays an active role on the committee of the World Alternative Games with this year’s event taking place in August. His nomination praised what he had achieved for the town and wider area and the Silver Kite was awarded in recognition of his contribution to tourism in the area since the 1980s.
Sian collected her award in recognition of the 40 years service she has given to Llandrindod Wells.
She joined the town council in February 1976 and served as town mayor in 1986 and 1987.
Sian was described as "a driving force" for many projects in her nomination and is active in many community groups as being chair of the Powys branch of One Voice Wales which represents community councils across the country.
A Silver Kite was awarded to Lily Rauber, from Llandrindod Wells, in recognition of her committed charity work and community service.
Lilly was involved in opening the first charity shop in Llandrindod Wells and has continued to support many local charities. She recently received an award for 50 years volunteering for Cancer Research UK.
Over many decades, Lilly has been involved with supporting many local organisations including the Albert Hall, town carnival, chamber of trade, voluntary service and organising street parties.
All three received their Silver Kite awards at the Royal Welsh Show.
