A REPORT that recommended Powys County Council close three secondary schools cost £105,000 it has been revealed.
The report which was carried out by international consultancy and agency firm, Price Waterhouse Coopers (PWC) had recommended the council close three secondaries and their sixth forms as well as other sixth forms in the area.
Last week the council's cabinet agreed to close 'a sufficient number' of secondaries as well as aim to establish a Welsh medium comprehensive and consolidate smaller Welsh stream classes into larger groups. The council is expected to reveal which schools are facing closure in March.
PWC was contracted to carry out the schools 'financial viability study' from April to December last year and the value of the contract was £105,000.
The cost has been revealed by the campaign group Powys Uncut, which is opposed to the UK government's austerity measures and cuts to services in Powys. The group submitted a Freedom of Information Act request which then revealed the cost of the report.
